Mentoring Launch--Your Face Here? Sixteen fourth-graders from Tilton School have already requested mentors through the Haverhill Youth Mentoring Project (HYMN), and the first nine mentors received their orientation last Saturday to begin a year-long, one-to-one relationship.
Additional mentors are needed. If you are interested, or would like to promote this opportunity in your organization, please contact project team member Diane Franz: Email. Mentoring Program Rolls Out This Fall. MORE
Haverhill Youth Mentor Network
Team Haverhill identified a critical need for academic and social support of the City’s youth, worked with a variety of community partners and seeded the Haverhill Youth Mentor Network (HYMN) to help build long-term civic capacity to support these young people through a mentoring initiative.
HYMN is a school based mentoring program at Haverhill’s Tilton Public School. The goal for Phase 1 of the program is to match twenty-five youth in the Fourth Grade with one-to-one mentors. It is planned for the program to expand in follow-on phases over the next several years. The program is overseen by a Program Director who is accountable to the HYMN Steering Committee, a committee comprised of a wide-range of community representatives from both the public and private sector.
The HYMN program is a one-to-two year mentoring commitment with matches meeting for at least one hour per week on site at the Tilton School before, during or after school. The program will begin October 2010. Fourth Grade mentees will be identified at the end of the current academic year by Third Grade faculty who will identify students who can most benefit from this effort. Mentors will be recruited from local and regional businesses as well as from other resource pools, such as retired teachers and members of local service organizations.
The Haverhill Youth Mentor Network (HYMN) is a program component of Team Haverhill. Team Haverhill is an independent, volunteer action group dedicated to making Haverhill a better place to live, learn, work and play. Its purpose is to foster civic dialogue, organize hands-on projects, create a more informed public and advocate for positive change.
