Soles of Haverhill "Shoe-la-bration"

A community-wide public art festival involving fourteen giant sculptures in the form of a high-button shoe, each embellished by a different artist. The festival was launched with an unveiling at the city’s July 5th Fireworks celebration, after which shoe were placed at multiple locations around Haverhill. After Labor Day, the shoes will be displayed in downtown locations, then auctioned off at a gala event at Buttonwoods Museum on October 24.

October 7th, 2009 Northshore Magazine: The Soles of Haverhill Host Two Exciting Events

Jayson Pica, a member of the Haverhill Boys and Girls Club, won the National Imagemakers Photography Contest sponsored by Circuit City .He was awarded $3000 that will be used towards his college education at NECC. His black and white photos named "Ghosts of the Shoe Factiories of Haverhill" is part of the "Solely Our Heritage Community Photo Journalism exhibit and movie that is now at the Buttonwoods Museum during the month of October. Due to a grant from the Haverhill Cultural Council and under the direction of artist Sharon Silverman, Jayson's dream of going to college has now come true.
An opening reception will take place on Oct 7th at 4pm at the Buttonwoods Museum to celebrate all those involved with the Solely Our Heritage film and photo exhibit.During this event Jayson will be honored for his scholarship award. This exhibit is in partnership with the Soles of Haverhill "Shoe-labration" and the Buttonwoods Museum" Queen Slipper City" arts and cultural community exhibits. “Shoe-la-bration" Gala Dinner and Auction at Bradford Country Club: Saturday, October 24th at 6:30 pm. The fourteen shoes have been delivered to terrific locations downtown—go to www.solesofhaverhill.org to see where they all are (though you’ll see a lot of them just by driving or walking around downtown.) Soon there will be one at City Hall, sponsored by the Teachers’ Credit Union.
