Vision

Team Haverhill is an independent, volunteer action group dedicated to making Haverhill a better place to live, learn, work and play. We pursue this purpose by fostering civic dialogue, organizing hands-on projects, creating a more informed public, and advocating for positive change.

Since 2006, when Team Haverhill became established as an independent entity, the vision work has continued with periodic community conversations (especially at “Possible Dreams” events) and annual goal-setting by Team Haverhill members. We are currently engaged in strategic planning as a Team, and will be posting new material through the fall of 2009 about our mission.

A few of the broadly-shared hopes and visions that have continued to inspire Team Haverhill’s work include:

  • Foster an attractive, vibrant downtown—and let our residents and potential visitors know about it!
  • Celebrate the variety of cultures and age groups in our city.
  • Use public art and cultural events to draw positive attention to our city, strengthen the economy, and bring people together—residents and visitors alike.
  • Provide rich, life-long learning for all groups and ages.
  • Build a healthy business environment, with many locally-owned enterprises and good employment opportunities for residents.
  • Foster a “green” Haverhill that includes protected open space, farmland, wildlife habitat, and drinking water; and improve our environmental practices, such as recycling.
  • Put the city on solid financial footing and reduce our debt.

Haverhill Renderings - Hopes into Images

Back in October of 2005, more than a dozen focus groups were conducted seeking feedback from Haverhill residents on what they would like their city to look like--then professional planners converted hopes into images.

In the focus groups--which included conversations middle schools, high schools, business and social groups--people were encouraged to think big. Based on the feedback from these groups, Team Haverhill offered both words and images to reflect what people said they wanted to see. The goal of the pictures is to stimulate imagination about what Haverhill could look like and be like--they are not actual plans and have no official status.

Team Haverhill meets from January through November, on the 2nd Monday of the month (except holidays) at 7 pm. Usual location is the Pentucket Bank Community Room, on Merrimack Street near Main Street. Use back entrance of old bank building.
